Language Proficiency: Georgian (Native), Russian (Fluent), English (Rudimentary)

Recruitment Prospects: None
Affiliations with Groups-of-Interest: Worked in the Thirteenth Chief Directorate of the KGB from its inception (as the OGPU's Spetzotis in 1925) until his death in 1967, serving as the KGB Deputy Chairman responsible for the Directorate from 1953-1967.
Threat Level: Severe; individual is overtly hostile to the Foundation and its interests, and actively seeks to weaponize anomalies for Soviet use.

Profile: Younger brother to the more (in)famous Lavrentiy Beria, Iosif Pavlovich spent most of his adult life working in the organization that would eventually become known as the Thirteenth Chief Directorate of the KGB. Little information is available regarding Beria's life until the Second World War, during which he served with distinction in the NKVD in Podlogistan. There are unconfirmed reports that Beria destroyed most records of his earlier years after his ascension to the KGB Deputy Chairmanship for the Thirteenth Chief Directorate in 1953, up to and including the removal of all reference to his existence in his brother's biography.

Like both of his fellow Georgians in high Soviet office (Stalin and Lavrentiy Beria), Iosif Beria was known for spectacular cruelty and ruthlessness. Despite his relationship with his brother and association with Stalin, Beria was able to retain his position in the Soviet intelligence apparatus through de-Stalinization because of his control over various dangerous artifacts and anomalies.

Beria was finally removed from his position by newly-appointed KGB Chairman Yuri Andropov in 1967, who subsequently ordered his execution by firing squad.
